Ciência Acontece - FOOD, NUTRIENTS & CALORIES

CIENCIA ACONTECE copyExperiment@Ciência organizes a new scientific interdisciplinary hands-on activity, Ciência Acontece, also implemented in partnership with NEBAUM (Núcleo de Estudantes de Biologia Aplicada da Universidade do Minho). These happenings are designed for children aged between 11 and 12 who are interested in lab activities.

 FOOD, NUTRIENTS & CALORIES

This activity invites children to clarify the concepts of food, nutrient and calorie, identify chemically different nutrients (carbohydrates, lipids and proteins) and calculate the calories of some slices of certain foods.

This activity, under the "Ciência Acontece!" has been implemented in the School EB 2,3 Gonçalo Nunes, Barcelos, on 29 May, in partnership with ECUM and Câmara Municipal de Barcelos

Verão con(s)Ciência - SUMMER & SCIENCE

It's hot! It's summer!  Do you know why your sweat is so frequent and abundant? Is it helpful?

We are already in the bathing season. Do you know how to protect your body and how to design a beach towel with regular polygons? If you are curious and want to enjoy the sun, come to BLCS and participate in the activity “Summer & Science”, on 20 Jun, at 10: 00h, in the "Ciência p'ra que te quero"

GROW AND MULTIPLY

Your body grows and so other animals and plants. What means “growing”? Only living things grow? And our body grows respecting proportions? Would you want to measure and verify them?

You also know that some cells die and others are born. Do they multiply? How long can a cell take to double up? Is it the same in microbes, plants and animals? How come the trees and the bushes? How fruits are build from flowers?

If you are a curious one and an experiments lover, go to BLCS on May 23, at 10:00 am.

GREEN: MANDATORY RESPECT

Where does the green of the plants come from? And why they change their colour? Do they breathe and have "noses"? And ... Do you know what fractals are? Do you want to find them in nature?

If you're curious and want to preserve the green, appear and take part in activity GREEN: mandatory to RESPECT, on 18 April, at 10:00 am, at the "Ciencia p'ra que te quero”

H2O: WATER FOR LIFE

H2O: WATER FOR LIFE

Certainly you have already heard saying that we can´t live without water. Do you know in how many states can you find it on Earth? And how much is available for life? How much water there is in your body? And how many litres do you spent daily? Have you heard about the water footprint? Do you want to learn how to calculate yours?

If you want to satisfy your curiosity come to BLCS on Saturday, March 21, at 10:30 am and dive into the activity “H2O: WATER FOR LIFE”, in "Ciência p'ra que te quero".
