Research led by Bruno Castro studies the impact of fungicides in freshwater systems

Bruno B. Castro, researcher at CBMA (Center for Molecular and Environmental Biology) at UMinho has been working to understand how agrochemicals affect key ecological processes in freshwaters, such as disease and decomposition. The most notable case so far concerns tebuconazole, an active ingredient of many fungicide formulations, which suppresses the transmission of a microparasitic yeast in host populations (zooplanktonic crustaceans). See articlevideo and research paper.
