The functional organization of CBMA is structured accordingly to the boundaries implemented at the University of Minho. The correspondent regulations were prepared in 2007, readjusted to the University regulations created in 2008/09 and approved by the due legal entities in November 2009.

The Director is chosen by election among the senior members / principal investigators of the CBMA. In order to be a candidate, it is mandatory to present a working programme for a three years’ period and appointing two Vice-Directors, representing each of the two Research Groups, bioYtec and bioEser. The Internal Consultative Board consists of one representative of each Research Area chosen by their peers within the Group. The Scientific Council is composed of all the PhD permanent members of the CBMA.
The CEPAC (Comissão Externa Permanente de Aconselhamento Científico / Permanent External Committee for Scientific Advisory) is composed of scientists from external research institutions of recognized prestige on scientific areas related to the activities of the Centre, and are supposed to evaluate the outputs and achievements of the centre and give advise on future strategies for the maintenance and/or improvement of scientific quality. It is composed of two non-Portuguese members and one national member, presently:

The management team is composed of two persons. Sofia Machado, working in CBMA since 2008, is trained in management through the UPorto MBA (Master in Business and Administration), supporting researchers in project applications and management. Miguel Pinheiro, working at CBMA since 2010, is a trainee in Marketing and Communication, a grantee in the PhD course in Marketing and Strategy (UMinho). He has been developing the new web page, database and image for the centre activities. The creation of this management team was a strategic bet of the Centre by financing the MBA course of Sofia Machado (2009/10) and the grant of Miguel Pinheiro (2010).
